Electrocatalysis plays a key role in clean energy technologies like ammonia production, COâ‚‚ reduction and fuel cells, which are key to a sustainable fuel production and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. Efficient electrocatalysts are essential to lower energy input, improved selectivity and faster reaction rates.
Operando NMR is a powerful tool to study electrocatalytic reactions under working conditions, which is critical for progress. It detects intermediates and products directly in the electrolyte or at the catalyst surface. This insight helps uncover reaction mechanisms and guide the design of better catalysts.
Our in situ cells with flow option have been designed for this purpose. In addition, PROBE is currently working involved in several research projects, with the aim of developing improved operando NMR set ups for the study of electrocatalytic reactions.
